Technically speaking, hyperpigmentation is an excess of color-producing skin cells which create an uneven or a patchy skin tone. It’s also technically harmless and quite easily treatable. But, before then, it can be unsightly: darker skin flaws, sun spots, age spots, melasma and plenty of freckles. Again, these are unlikely to cause much harm and they’re often far from ugly, but it’s simply a personal choice as to whether one wants to get rid of them — and if they do, treatment is possible!

How is hyperpigmentation treated?

At FlawlessSkin by Abby, we’ve successfully threatened multiple different forms of hyperpigmentation. The exact way we’ll help accomplish that for our patients will vary from person to person, however some of the procedures we use to treat the different forms of hyperpigmentation are:

• A combination of topical products containing ingredients like azelaic acid, hydroquinone and kojic acid. Or retinoids, such as tretinoin, and Vitamin.

• Chemical peels are another rejuvenating and effective treatment. They are a topical treatment that improves your skin by safely peeling away the very thinnest upper surface of the dermis. Chemical peels range from “light” or superficial, to “medium” and “deep.” We’d likely recommend a tailored peel to treat sun damage and pigmentation irregularities like freckles, age spots, and melasma.

• IPL, Intense Pulsed Light is used not only to improve dark spots, but also to reduce any large pores across the skin, to heal broken capillaries and clear up blemishes, and to restore a more healthy and harmonious tone and texture to your skin.
• Laser treatments are another effective way to deal with sun damage as well as the various signs of aging. Laser treatments deliver precise bursts of harmless and painless light energy to the skin surface which causes the very finest upper layer to shed, thus stimulating cell renewal and skin rejuvenation.
